About this spot

The idyllic village of Podersdorf is the most popular spot for surfers at Neusiedler See, which turns into the Mecca of the Viennese surf scene as it's only an hour's worth of driving from Vienna. Every year at the end of April, kitesurfing and windsurfing competitions take place at the summer opening on the beach of Podersdorf.

Plenty of free parking is available, the wide kilometre long beach with access to the lake is divided into bathing and surfing areas.

Due to its shallow water depth of less than 2m, Lake Neusiedl is a paradise for beginners and pros alike. The prevailing wind direction is northwest. During the summer months, winds from southeast to southwest are also frequent. Especially on hot, humid summer days thunderstorms suddenly form, and winds can intensify at any time during a storm, often reaching 6 to 10 Beaufort within a few minutes. Most storms occur after a southerly air current, which then quickly changes to a strong north-westerly wind. Optical storm warning systems are provided all around the lake (orange flashing lights).
