About this spot
Sankt Peter-Ording is a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein. It is the only German seaside resort with its own sulphur spring and therefore bears the name "Nordseeheil- und Schwefelbad".
A characteristic feature of Sankt Peter-Ording is its beach (about twelve kilometres long and up to two kilometres wide), the dunes, the salt marshes and the rather untypical woodlands. Widely know as a paradise for wind and water sports, Sankt Peter-Ording has been the venue of the Kite World Cup for years.
Daytime parking is widely available all along the beaches. The access to the water in Ording Nord is marked by two rows of buoys, one should avoid exposing oneself to the buoys by ignoring the markings! The tideways in the shore area offer ideal conditions for beginners and advanced surfers alike, watch out for swimmers though. Wide stretches of sandbanks and very shallow waters are exposed during low tide. The westernmost edge of the sandbank offers rather consistent wave conditions, of one is willing to walk all the way out.
