About this spot

The volcanic island Pantelleria is located about 60 km east of the Tunisian peninsula Cape Bon and 100 km southwest of Sicily, in the middle of the Strait of Sicily. Two ferry lines connect the island daily with Trapani in Sicily. Pantelleria airport is served from Trapani, Palermo and Rome.

Pantelleria and its offshore outcrops have a subtropical climate with hot, dry summers and moderately warm, humid winters. The island is buffeted by winds almost all year long, mostly either the cool Mistral from the northwest or the warm Scirocco from the south.

The island characterised by its mostly rocky, volcanic landscapes and jagged coastlines. The island makes up for its lack of beaches with scenic hiking paths, hot springs, and ample opportunities for snorkelling, diving and boat cruises. Picturesque ruins and archeological sites can be found all across the island.
