About this spot

Workum is one of the eleven historical cities in the Dutch province of Fryslân (Friesland). Workum is connected to the IJsselmeer by a canal about two kilometres long and has several marinas. Tourism and recreational boating are very important for the local economy.

The local, long sandy beaches are suitable for surfers of all experience levels and only rarely really crowded with visitors. The water is relatively shallow up to 500m from the shore, a sandbank in front of the beach reduces the amount of waves. There are several kitesurfing schools on site.
