» Wind-SMS - How does it work?

You can get real time windreports and forecasts for more than 1000 surfspots worldwide via SMS.

  • Call *31#+49 695899761 + area extension for free
  • Wait for ringtone & hang up
  • Receive SMS

*31# causes your caller ID to be sent to the called no. for this specific call. This is necessary for the Callback-SMS to work. If the transmission of your caller ID is preset in your phone menu, you can leave out *31#.

  • Nokia: Menu > Settings> Call (settings) > Send my caller ID > Yes
  • Siemens: Menu> Settings > Calling > Incognito > Off
  • Motorola and Ericsson: If your caller ID is not sent, ask your mobile operator to switch on the transmission of your caller ID (CLIP) permanently

» Stop automatic WindAlarm-SMS: I receive WindAlarm-SMS frequently. How can I stop the automatic delivery?

Take your mobile phone (that receives the WindAlarm-SMS) and call *31#+49695899761000 for free, wait for the ring tone and hang up.

If you call this number again the Windalarm will be activated again.

Or go the you WindSMS settings, then Windalam settings and switch off "Windalarm".

The Windalarm (automatic WindSMS) works independently from the Callback-SMS. The Windalarm might even work if your caller ID is not sent to Germany and you cannot receive Callback-SMS.

» CallbackSMS (Pull): Why do I receive WindSMS although I haven't called +49695899761 + area extension? When I call +49695899761 + area extension I called but did not receive an SMS?

If you have activated the Windalarm, you will receive Windalarm-SMS, when the preset windlimit for your spots is surpassed.

Wait for the ringing tone when you call so our system can identify you. Hang up as soon as you hear the ring tone.

Did you activate the transmission of your caller ID?

» Costs/Prices: How much does it cost to call Windfinder? How much do WindSMS credits cost?

» Weatherstations: What exactly do the values in the WindSMS represent? When and how often do the weatherstations measure? Is there a description for the weather stations?

The windspeed values given in the WindSMS or on our website (blue line) are 10 minute averages taken immediately before the time stamp. The red line in the windgraph on our website represents the gusts (maximum wind) during the 10 minute time period.

Most weather stations measure every hour. There are also weather stations that take readings in shorter or longer intervals.

You'll find a description of some weather stations on their online windgraphs at the bottom. There is a link "Weatherstation". Click on this link if you want to find out more about a weather station.

» I have got a cellphone contract with a foreign (non German) cellphone operator? Can I receive WindSMS from abroad?

Make sure to activate you caller ID transmission or enter *31# before entering the phone no. Then you need to dial the country code for Germany which is +49 or 0049 or similar. In most cases you need to call *31#+49 695899 + area extension.

When you call us from a non-German mobile phone network in some cases your caller ID is not transferred even if the transmission of your caller ID is activated. This means that the Callback-SMS service does not work for you.

You might still be able to receive Windalarm-SMS. Send us an e-mail with your phone no. and your mobile network operator's name and we will try to send you a Windalarm-SMS.

» SMS-Newsletter: Ocassionally I receive SMS-News from Windfinder. What does that cost?

These short messages do not cost anything. If you don't want them go to your account settings and switch them off.

» My cellphone no. has changed. How do I activate the new. no. for WindSMS?

Send an e-mail to info@windfinder.com and tell us your old phone no. and your new. phone no. and we will replace the old no. with the new one.

» How often does the WindAlarm alert me?

In your account settings you can choose between 2 options:

"One message at each day's first surpassing of windlimit" means that you receive only one Windalarm per day and station, if the windlimit is exceeded.

"Message at each crossing (up/down) of windlimit" means that you will receive a message for a station each time the windlimit is exceeded or falls short of it later one.

If the second option seems too expensive or too complicated to you go for option 1 "One message at each day's first surpassing of windlimit" or just use the Callback-SMS.

» How do I recharge my account when there are no credits left?
