The wind was blowing at more than 20 Knots across the beach of Skt. Peter-Ording and event site of the PKRA Kitesurf Worldcup today providing perfect conditions for the Freestyle double elimination. German kiteboarding champion Mario Rodwald (SKBUe) was on fire defeating Rick Jensen (SKBUe), Cesar Portas (Spain), Michi Schitzhofer (Austria), Reno Romeu (Brazil) Mike Blomvall (Sweden) and was eventually stopped by Tom Hebert (New Caledonia) when Super-Mario's strength weakened due to the many heats but he was very happy ending up in 5th.
Tom Hebert then went on to defeat Alvaro Onieva from Spain. Tom then had to face the current tour leader Kevin Langeree (Netherlands) who managed to hold off Tom. Then it was showtime for an exciting battle between Kevin and reigning kiteboarding world champion Aaron Hadlow (United Kingdom) both pulling out spectacular handle pass moves like double S-Bend pass. Kevin won the heat in a close decision by the judges taking revenge for his loss in the single elimination so a deciding 3rd heat had to be held. Again both riders showed fascinating and extremely difficult moves and again Kevin beat his rival for this year's freestyle crown.
In the women's Freestyle Gisela Pulido (Spain) won the loser's round and faced Bruna Kajiya (Brazil) in the final but the Brazilian rider managed to stay in the top spot winning the the Freestyle discipline in Skt. Peter-Ording.
Another course race was scheduled after the end of the Freestyle event but the wind was blwoing so strong that the race comittee did not manged to position the buoys so there are no changes in the classification. The event lasts until Sunday so watch out for more kiteboarding action and don't miss the free "Wir sind Helden" concert on Friday night on the Skt. Peter-Ording beach. The forecast for Skt. Peter-Ording promises some sun and decreasing wind for the concert!!
